Volunteer

Whether sorting donated food items at the food bank, calling isolated seniors to check-in, helping low-income residents prepare their tax returns, joining a committee, or organizing a neighborhood donation drive — volunteers are an essential part of our Norwescap community! If you have a specific skill set that can benefit our participants, or you just want to give a little personal time to make a difference, we will find an opportunity that’s right for you.

Norwescap also welcomes groups from corporations, schools, and faith and civic organizations. Our team is happy to work with you to coordinate an engaging and rewarding group volunteer experience.

Food Bank and Thrift Store

Volunteers are welcome at our Food Bank and Thrift Store in Phillipsburg, New Jersey – helping to sort and re-pack donated food, pack backpacks for our school-based programs, staff the thrift store, and more. Volunteers from local groups, schools, churches, clubs, and businesses come together to conduct food and fund drives and work with us on-site to help end hunger.

  • All volunteers must be aged 12 or older. Teens aged 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Warehouse volunteers will assist with one of the following tasks: (1) Sorting and repacking donated food items or (2) assembling food items for our Kid’s Backpack Program.
  • Thrift Store volunteers will assist with sorting donated items and general store operations.

To volunteer with our Food Bank, download our PDF application and email the completed form to Janet Bray, brayj@norwescap.org. Questions? Call us at 908-454-4322.

Supporting our Seniors and Mid-Low Income Community

Norwescap relies on volunteers to support many of the services we provide to our senior neighbors and mid-low income community. You can volunteer as a Friendly Visitor, or provide check-ins on isolated seniors via telephone; help lead health, wellness, and support workshops for older adults; or become trained to provide free tax preparation services through VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program), Medicare counseling, and more.

To learn more about these programs and how you can get involved, call us at 973-784-4900!
