September County Council for Young Children Update

Hunterdon County
Hunterdon CCYC has been busy with outreach and planning several events for families for the  month of October. In continuing a strong partnership with SAFE Harbor Child Access Center in Flemington, Hunterdon CCYC has been instrumental in planning a Father/Daughter hair tutorial session titled “It’s not about the Braid, It’s about the Bond,” to take place at SAFE Harbor on October 6th. This event is geared towards engaging Father’s or male caregivers in the community by offering a free educational and interactive tutorial to take part in with their daughter’s. Later in the month, there will be a free Pumpkin Painting Event in both Lambertville and Flemington in which families can come with their children to decorate a pumpkin in order to take home for the Fall season. The above mentioned events are free and open to the public, however require RSVP to spencerh@norwescap.org.

Warren County
In August, CCYC in collaboration with Warren County Senior Centers participated in Generations activity. Together the Children and the seniors created memories captured by a Polaroid picture. They painted, colored and/or drew art to learn about each other while spending time together.
Also in August, Parents enjoyed a presentation about the Dollars to Dreams program. This program teaches individuals how to save on a budget. The program is designed to assist low-income individuals and families to save for a life-changing asset and create wealth. The IDA Program is a matched savings program. Enrolled individuals receive match dollars while attending financial literacy workshops, developing budgets, obtaining knowledge on credit and implementing and developing an individual service financial plan.
