Partner Spotlight: ShopRite of Hunterdon County’s Race for Hunger

ShopRite of Hunterdon County has been one of Norwescap’s most loyal and generous partners, raising millions of dollars over the years to support Norwescap’s Food Bank and our work to end hunger in our region.

On September 19, ShopRite hosted its 25th Race for Hunger 5K Trail Run & 3K Walk at Deer Path Park in Flemington; the quarter-century celebration of this annual fundraiser was even more significant this year as it honored the legacy of event founder Bill Boss, a retired ShopRite of Hunterdon County executive who dedicated himself to fighting hunger and helping people in need. Bill volunteered with Norwescap for years behind the scenes, and in 1995 he established the race to raise awareness about food insecurity and promote community involvement with Norwescap. Bill continued to work to end food insecurity throughout his retirement, volunteering with Norwescap and at food banks in Monmouth County before he passed away in 2020.

The event raised $43,000 this year for Norwescap’s Food Bank, bringing the total raised to more than $500,000 over the past 25 years. Every dollar has helped Norwescap meet the basic needs of individuals and families in northwest New Jersey who struggle to put food on the table. We celebrate Bill’s memory, and we are grateful to the entire ShopRite community, the race sponsors, supporters, and participants for their unwavering dedication to fighting hunger in our communities.
