Just as April began, Norwescap launched the month with a remarkable event: Agency Training Day. This event, a cornerstone of Norwescap’s annual calendar, brought together a majority of our staff—approximately two-thirds—from across New Jersey and Pennsylvania for a day of empowerment, education, and team building.
Imagine a bustling banquet hall filled with over 200 passionate individuals, all dedicated to a singular cause—creating positive change across our five serving counties, and amongst our diverse programming from childhood education found in our Early Head Start to Housing, to Senior Services. This is Norwescap, an organization that embodies the spirit of collaboration, compassion, and growth!
At this year’s Agency Training Day, our staff immersed themselves in the EPIC (Education, Participation, Intention & Courage) Art Gallery showcased in the main foyer, where the vibrant creativity of our BIPOC youth shone brightly. This ‘traveling gallery’ is available for public display—reach out to Program Director Dianna Morrison for the latest whereabouts.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
Following this, a captivating panel discussion titled “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging: Looking to the Past and Forward to the Future” took place, featuring esteemed board members Scott Paul, Charles Boddy, and special guest, Esther Dillard, who delved into pressing issues of diversity, anti-racism, and the evolving landscape of marginalized communities. This was not merely a passive exchange of ideas; it required the active participation of the audience who submitted their questions, ensuring that the dialogue was inclusive, engaging, and reflective of the diverse perspectives within Norwescap’s fold.
Norwescap – it’s a movement!
As the morning progressed and Norwescap staff had the opportunity to choose from a variety of breakout sessions, with interactive and engaging workshops designed to empower and enlighten. Some sessions included Combating Compassion Fatigue, Demystifying Data Collection, The Importance of Cultivating a Growth Mindset, and Delivering Legendary Service.
Throughout the day, staff at Norwescap rediscovered the underlying sense of purpose and impact that defines our work. This event underscored that Norwescap transcends being just an organization; it’s a movement—a force for good that empowers individuals, transforms communities, and ignites hope in those who need it most. For anyone outside of our staff considering recommending our services, donating to our cause, or even volunteering your time, this is the key takeaway we hope to inspire in you.
Whether you’re passionate about social justice, economic empowerment, or simply making a difference in the world, Norwescap is a place of open arms, inviting you to join us as we continue our journey towards a more equitable and inclusive future—one where every individual is empowered to thrive, and every community is supported with dignity and respect. We’re doing our best to turn dreams into reality and create lasting change for generations to come and invite you to join us on in our mission.
Our day continued with another standout session, “Norwescap Has a Dream,” drew inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic speech, fostering intimate discussions on dismantling systemic racism and fostering an antiracist world. It’s further testament to Norwescap’s unwavering commitment to equity and justice, both within the organization and beyond. Norwescap offered invaluable insights and practical tools to navigate the challenges of today’s world, allowing staff to learn how to unleash their full potential to leave a lasting impact on those they serve.
Team #OneNorwescap!
But it was not all serious discussions and soul-searching. Amidst the day’s enriching sessions, there were moments of silliness and connection, such as the lively lunchtime gathering and the infamous group photo—a testament to the bonds forged within our staff. The laughter and chaos surrounding a photo shoot of over 200 people can’t be captured in just 1 picture, we promise – this photo can’t be summed up in 1,000 words.
Additionally, there were moments of recognition and appreciation as staff members received VALUE Awards and Longevity Awards. It was a joyous occasion, celebrating the dedication and hard work of our team, highlighted by the presentation of a Longevity Award to staff members who have devoted up to an incredible 40 years to Norwescap! These awards truly reflect the unwavering commitment and passion that define our Norwescap team.
Until Next Year..
As the curtains closed on Norwescap’s Agency Training Day, we felt a convergence of minds and hearts. Echoing Norwescap’s core values of Creating Opportunity, Changing Lives– we felt re-inspired, and energized to move ahead, to continue driving meaningful change in the community. And now, looking ahead, we invite you to join us in our journey. Your support—whether through donations, sponsorships, volunteer work, or advocacy—can help us amplify our impact and transform more lives. Together, let’s work toward a future where every individual and community thrive with dignity and respect.
