Hunger Action Month

Each time Norwescap connects with a family seeking assistance, we focus on tackling the most basic needs first – and there are few needs as basic as access to food. After all, how can someone think about building savings, improving employment, or furthering their education if they don’t know how they’re going to feed themselves or their families tomorrow? While ending hunger in our communities is a long-term vision, Norwescap works every day to increase food security in our region and help our families access healthy foods and build better nutrition.

Over the past year, we have been able to help 23% of our participant families become food secure – meaning they no longer worry about where their food is going to come from. We are so grateful to our donors and volunteers who help to make this possible, through financial contributions, food donations and collection drives, and hands-on assistance at our Food Bank. Interested in getting involved? Call our Food Bank at 908-454-4322, or contact Food Bank Director Helene Meissner, to learn how you can help us combat hunger.

Your Donations At Work

  • Norwescap’s Food Bank distributed the equivalent of 2.1 million meals in 2020, through our network of food pantries, community kitchens, shelters, child care centers, and other partners in Warren, Sussex, and Hunterdon Counties.
  • Our Food Bank also provides food-filled backpacks to children identified as food-insecure in many local schools; sponsors pantries at local middle and high schools; and provides free lunches to children in Phillipsburg during the summer months.
  • Over 5,000 families and expectant mothers receive support annually through Norwescap’s WIC (Women, Infants and Children) programs, which offer nutritional assistance, breastfeeding support, and educational resources across northern New Jersey.
  • Many of Norwescap’s program sites offer on-site pantries, where participants can easily access a wide variety of nutritious food – at no cost – whenever they need it, along with toiletries, diapers, and other necessities.

Every time another family is able to put a nutritious meal on their table, we are one step closer to achieving food security in our communities. We are grateful to every supporter who helps us work towards this goal each and every day.
