Compadres

Norwescap Compadres provides low-income at-risk children, whose parents participate in Pathways 2 Prosperity, access to experiences, skills, support, and guidance needed to develop the resiliency and social-emotional skills necessary to reach their highest potential.

Every child deserves the opportunity to become the very best they can be; the opportunity to develop the competencies needed to achieve success not just in school but throughout their life. Compadres creates a fertile learning environment opening the doors to a future of possibilities for low-income children.

The program builds the skills adolescents need to face the tough issues and life-changing decisions they face while improving their self-image, building friendships, resisting peer pressure, achieving their goals, as well as tackling the new challenges of our time, like cyberbullying and social media. The goal is to keep youth focused on proactive behaviors and choices that reinforce their pathway to educational and career success.

P2 children engage weekly in the following interactive learning experiences:

  • STEAM activities which build academic engagement and orient children to living wage opportunities.
  • Social-emotional learning which builds the children’s readiness to learn, by improving their academic performance and behavior. Interactive activities build skills such as conflict resolution, creative thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. These employability skills are the foundation necessary to successfully navigate occupational environments as adults.
  • Career Corner where children can explore careers that lead to financial stability and a life filled with opportunities.
  • Peer Mentoring where trained high school and college students volunteer as mentors, modeling healthy behaviors, decision-making skills and interest in academic pursuits.
