Voices:
When her marriage ended, Annette needed to obtain a full time job to support herself and her two daughters. She did not have her GED or any marketable skills. She had tried to get her GED several times previously, but never quite completed all the tests.
The Center first signed her up for their free 50-hour computer training program.
Annette didn’t miss a session and quickly gained computer skills. With increased confidence in herself, Annette decided she was ready to tackle getting her GED.

The Center assisted her by funding a tutor to help her with the parts of the exam that were intimidating to her, and stayed in touch to keep her focused on her goal. Annette obtained her GED! Now that she had her GED, the Center referred her to Workforce Development for a federal training grant. Annette was approved for funding to attend the Office Systems Technology class at WCCC.
While attending the class Annette became homeless and had to live with her daughters at a shelter. The Center provided her with the application for Warren County Housing Programs, but the wait list was long.

Despite living in the shelter during this time, Annette frequently stayed late after class and was able to keep up with the training program. At the end of her class, Annette found out she was approved for Section 8 housing. After finally moving in to a home, Annette was able to focus on her job search. The Center worked with her to fine-tune her resume and step her through job search procedures over the Internet. Annette recently was able to secure a full time position as a secretary making $12 an hour.
