ARRA Community Meals

ARRA Stimulus Funding

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides funding during the current economic crisis to save and create jobs.  The ARRA funding also calls for increased transparency and accountability to taxpayers.  At NORWESCAP accountability and transparency has always been the cornerstone of our service delivery model, providing services to over 35,000 low income individuals a year with an administrative cost of less than five cents.  NORWESCAP is pleased to report that we have received funding under the ARRA to expand services and provide new services to our community in the area of economic development.

NORWESCAP designated part of the ARRA funding to provide meals to low-income individuals in Warren County.

Community Meals

There are more food insecure people in New Jersey than ever before as household income continues to decrease due to loss of employment and other factors.  The National Poverty Center recently reported in 2006 that children represent a disproportionate share of the poor in the United States.  NORWESCAP wanted to address this need by creating a Community Meals Project.  The Community Meals Project provides a ready-cooked, delicious and nutritious food package to fifty NORWESCAP families that have indicated having insufficient food to prepare for meals.  NORWESCAP is partnering with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to provide food with not only a high nutritional value, but food that is prepared with taste in mind.  The project will serve fifty families through September 30, 2010.
