Mitch Morrison of Sparta, NJ has always been interested and advocated for the GREEN movement. He is highly involved in the Sustainable New Jersey Program and was one of the founding fathers of the recent opening of the Sparta Farmer’s Market. One day while driving through his neighborhood he noticed a high number of items that had been discarded but were in great condition. He gathered them and called various agencies to see if they could be used. Luckily he spoke to the family worker at the NORWESCAP Sussex Head Start Center, Donna Reinhardt, who was thrilled to accept his offer!
Since that initial call, he has brought the center a box trailer every other month LOADED with all sorts of items ranging from bikes, clothing, toys, books and household items, all in excellent condition to the center. His neighbors now bring him items that their children have outgrown or no longer need!
Once he delivers the items Donna has a group of youth volunteers who separate and organize it in a room on the lower level of the site. Head Start parents are welcome to come to the site any time. On October 12th the Annual Garage Sale Give Away was held with over 20 parents participating. The event will continue throughout the month and more parents are expected.
Mitch has bent over backwards for the program even purchasing them a box of copier paper! In gratitude the center presented him with a framed certificate and letter of appreciation from the parents, children and staff.
We are fortunate to have this generous man as part of the NORWESCAP Head Start family!
