Struggling Mom Retrained and Secures Job

A recently separated mother of two young girls came to the Career & Life Transitions Center. Though struggling financially, she was ineligible for food stamps.  Without the extra cushion provided by such benefits as Child Support and Rental Assistance, she lived by borrowing against her credit. Family Success Center Helps Mom Find Success in the Community

A young woman came to the Family Success Center only able to speak Spanish. Pregnant and unsure of her future, she did not know what to do. Though a victim of domestic violence, she faced criminal charges or deportation from accidentally hurting her batterer.  Immediately she was connected to resources in the community. With the NORWESCAP Family Partner’s support, she was able to get a public defender, and the charges were reduced to a fine.  She needed to speak English, so she began to attend language classes during the day and evening while she continued to work. Individual Development Account (IDA) Client Builds New Business

BH recently began the IDA program with the goal of home ownership. While driving a school bus and attending school at William Paterson part time, she was offered a twelve-month teaching position at $40,000 annually. Despite many financial setbacks, she was able to save $2,900 with her new job. She attributes much of her success to the financial education she received through the IDA program, including budgeting and how to be an educated consumer. NORWESCAP’s Career & Life Transitions Center for Women is having their 6th Annual Scrapbooking Fundraiser Girls Just Wanna Crop! Women Helping Women, the Glue that Holds Us Together on Saturday, January 25th from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm at Franklin Township Elementary School, Washington. Money Matters

Family Loan Program and IDA Program along with PNC Bank will sponsor this important workshop. It will be held on Tuesday, December 10th at 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the 350 Marshall Street location. The topics covered will be: Track daily spending habits, Prepare a budget, Identify ways to decrease spending, and Recognize how to create a plan to achieve financial goals. Acting 101 Workshop

The Family Success Center will offer “Acting 101 Workshop” on Monday, November 18th at 459 Center Street, Phillipsburg at the Early Childhood Learning Center at 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
